I want to give y’all a quick update on Boniface Fellowship.
First, what is that again?
Boniface Fellowship is a proposed regional fellowship of Reformed churches. Its purpose would be to encourage, resource, and provide relational accountability to the leadership of like-minded churches. It’s not a denomination in any structural sense; it would function just as a robust network.
Second, so what’s the update?
The update is that while we are still considering the project, we have purposely slowed our pace in moving forward on it.
We’re not interested in creating something that’s essentially just a top funnel for an ecclesiastical or para-church brand. Our goal is to provide real help for church leadership. That takes a lot of work, and while East River’s leadership has some bandwidth to contribute, it’s not enough.
That’s why you involve other people, right? Exactly—but projects like this require high trust and like-mindedness, and it takes time to build relationships with the right people.
If you rush something like Boniface, even with its modest ambitions, you risk creating a mess that affects multiple churches. That’s a nightmare we’re determined to avoid.
In summary, Boniface is still a possibility, but even if we decide to move forward, it likely wouldn’t happen until 2026 or perhaps even 2027.
I appreciate your wisdom in slowing down and making a wise deliberate decision.
Remind me, did you end up non-denom for now, or did you join the PCA?
