Getting Unstuck When You're Overwhelmed
This is an exercise I do when I’m overwhelmed with responsibilities. I write out on the whiteboard everything that is pressing on my mind.
If it’s time sensitive, I circle it with red.
If it’s easy (can be done within 30 mins), I circle it with green.
If it can wait until next week, I circle it with blue.
Then I immediately do anything that is red and green. I ignore the things in blue.
And what I’m left with is a clear vision of time sensitive things that are hard and require my total focus.
I do these for my personal, professional, and ecclesiastical life. It’s simple and visual. The main principle is to get the stuff out of your head and properly categorized. The exact way you do that is neither here nor there.
