Mignola will always be the greatest to me. His artwork pops out to me every time I see it. Collected Hellboy Omnibus’s over time. Lead to looking for the Batman and x-men titles of the late 80s early 90s he did. Those covers are beautiful.
Although I do have a particular “what if” in my head every time a family from our church visits for dinner and they see huge black books with “HELLBOY” on the spines next to our devotion and children’s books on the shelves.
I have grown almost physically sick each time I get around the same old tried influencer content. It will be a year this January that I have deactivated all my major social media accounts.
I’ve gotten into reading books like I used to, watching good movies and enjoying every bit of it without having to check my Instagram every 3 minutes.
It’s been the best thing I’ve done. Used to try to share every moment of my life. My discipline of waking up at “4:30am” every morning and trying to post about it everyday. My heads in my palm when I think about it. I literally laugh at myself now.
Anyway I appreciate your writing. I don’t have a lot I can say I look forward to reading here on Substack but I’ll read some Foster with a cup of coffee immediately. 🫡
I went down the rabbit hole on comic book speculation a couple years ago. Ended up at the full opposite end of the collector spectrum -- now I make custom binds of my books, so they have 0 resale value and exclusively sentimental and reading value. you can just do things cause you enjoy them
And that is why I keep reading this guy. But the minute he panders, I’m gone.
