Thank you for your perspective on this matter. I see this often with objectively hurt people in a relationship. Spotting a victim mentality is tough sometimes in others and in my self. It is subtle. My wife and I have had some really difficult church experiences in the past, and this also helps me better watch my own heart.
Thank you! I appreciate your pastoral response to this issue. I’ve wondered how to respond to people who use pain as a tool, and your balanced approach to this topic is really helpful.
Maybe don't greet some one with, "How are you doing?" - unless you really want to know how they're doing, warts and all. Just say hi, good to see you.. unless it's not good to see them, then just say, "Oh, thre people you meet when you don't have a gun.."..
I see this all the time in our church. As the pastor’s wife I’m trying to be sensitive but at the same time I see it as always making the conversation about them. It’s a struggle to know what to say without sounding cold or condescending. Thanks for this!
