Also reminds me of when my oldest was about 3 years old and very afraid of the dark. To help him get over this fear, I took him outside in the middle of the night and was pointing to things on our property that he could barely make out to show him that everything that he was familiar with in the day was the same as at dark. He looked at me and said ‘Daddy, it’s not the things that I can barely see but the things I can’t see that scare me’.
Many years ago I read “When People Are Big and God Is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure, Codependency, and the Fear of Man”, by Edward T. Welch, it put the fear of God and the fear of man in proper perspective.
Really good, insightful stuff. Enjoyable and challenging even to a dinosaur in his sixties. After all, being a truly Godly man is not a task one ever completes. But do kids in that age range still read? Let alone anything that might force them to think and reflect. Just a thought which could be completely wrong as my own children left home long ago.

I appreciate this scriptural basis and am encouraged to start there and pray that my son will grow in his fear of the Lord. Yes, please. My eleven-year-old battles some strong rational and irrational fears and this angle would meet him right where he is.
